If you love South Park’s Eric Cartman then you will love Barry Ween written and drawn by of all people Judd Winick. It’s hard to tell who’s nastier and misguided Cartman or Barry Ween. On a whim I bought “The Big Book of Barry Ween Boy Genius” a 376 page softbound book of all of Barry Ween’s published adventures and it is awesome. I’m not afraid to say that I stereotype both things and people and believe things wouldn’t be stereotypes if there wasn’t an ounce of truth in them. In the case of Judd Winick my stereotype was totally wrong. Though I stopped watching the “Real World” years ago, I thought Judd Winick was some politically correct dude without any balls or a sense of humor which is why I was reluctant to read anything by him. All I can say is based on his Barry Ween character, Judd Winick is a genius with a great sick sense of humor. I guess the only thing I was right about when I saw Judd Winick and Pam Ling on the “Real World” was that it was odd they weren’t boyfriend and girlfriend as they seemed like a married couple but were dating other people. Well I guess I was right because they connected later on and married.
Back to Barry Ween. If you love South Park and Cartman you will love Barry Ween.
