If somehow some dude from a Cable TV Network wants a hit TV series, they should buy the rights to “The Walker Brothers No Regrets Our Story” the autobiography of the great American Pop group of the 60′s that found fame and success in England, The Walker Brothers, written by members Gary Walker (Gary Leeds) and John Walker (John Maus). This excellent book basically tells the saga of 60s Rock and Roll by the only group that was a product of the British Musical Invasion and the California Surfing Scene and experienced both. One minute, Gary Walker has million selling records and rock stardom and the next minute he’s back in California fixing cars for a living! If the name The Walker Brothers doesn’t ring an instant bell, then all I have to say is 6 words: “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” one of the greatest records ever made:
The story of the Walker Brothers is fascinating and “No Regrets Our Story” is the first book that ever expands on The Walker Brothers Incredible journey from going on their own from Los Angeles to London in 1964 as total unknowns to establish themselves as a band and reach International Stardom in a relatively short period of time.

To 60′s London Pop Stars
Before I go on, the star of the group was lead vocalist Scott Walker (Scott Engel) who was not involved in the writing of this book yet is written about extensively in the book by the other 2 Walker Brothers. I should note, John Walker sadly passed away from Cancer this month. God Bless.
“No Regrets, Our Story” uses an interesting literary device to tell the Saga of The Walker Brothers: Gary Walker and John Walker both tell their stories side by side, one following the other for each period of time, unknowest to what the other writes. Thus we have some interesting contradictions and revelations such as when Gary Walker writes that he was surprised that the group broke up originally as things were fine with them while John Walker then details why the group broke up and why things weren’t fine! Thus we are getting two separate stories from the 2 Walker Brothers who lived and shared the same experience which makes for a great read.
There’s plenty of Sex, drugs and Rock and Roll in the book, mainly from John Walker and plenty of interesting revelations such as John Walker being friends with the Beach Boys before they turned pro and teaching some of them how to play guitar, hanging out with and befriending The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Ritchie Valens, unreleased solo albums produced by the Rolling Stones Bill Wyman and much more.
My only criticism of “The Walker Brothers No Regrets Our Story” is bizarrely the book doesn’t go into any great details about “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” and I would have liked to have learned a lot more about the recording session and finding out things like who the drummer on their hits was (Gary Walker was not allowed to play drums on recording sessions because of the musicians union). On the plus side, we learn that the Walker Brothers Recordings were in fact a team effort by all of the members who had total control over their recordings and learn that if it wasn’t for Gary Walker, there never would have been a Walker Brothers Group as he was the one who put everything together and brought them to London. I also like how the members solo careers are covered up to the time the book was published and the book pulls no punches.
As I said, I hope this blog somehow gets the interest of the right person who would be interested in making “The Walker Brothers No Regrets Our Story” into a Cable TV Series. Its a tale covering the 1950′s to the 21 Century that needs to be told- a Rock and Roll AMC “Mad Men”!
